Meet Reuben.

Jacob and Leah's first son.

Reuben: a quiet historically appropriate setting for Jacob and Leah's first son, with simple understated contextual details; no invented dramatic event

Who was Reuben?

Reuben was Jacob and Leah's first son. Genesis includes him in the family conflicts surrounding Joseph. His story has both attempts to help and actions later criticised in the family narrative.

Reuben tried to stop his brothers from killing Joseph and intended to return him to their father. His attempt did not prevent Joseph being sold, showing that a good intention may need effective action and help.

Reuben pleading with his brothers to spare Joseph beside an empty dry pit, no violence or distressed child, adult family members.
