The Shunammite woman

A woman offering hospitality and seeking help.

The Shunammite woman: a quiet historically appropriate setting for A woman offering hospitality and seeking help, with simple understated contextual details; no invented dramatic event

Who was The Shunammite woman?

Second Kings describes an unnamed woman from Shunem who offered Elisha hospitality. She and her husband prepared a room for him. Her later story includes a child, grief and determined efforts to seek help.

When her son died, she went to Elisha and spoke directly about her distress. The account gives room to her initiative rather than presenting her as a silent bystander.

The Shunammite woman speaking directly and earnestly with Elisha outdoors after travelling to seek help, her initiative central, no dead child shown.
