The Bible connection · Luke 15:11–24
A father ran to welcome his son.
In Jesus’ story, a son left home and later returned, unsure of his welcome. His father saw him coming, ran to meet him and welcomed him with joy. The story invites us to wonder about mercy and God’s generous love.

Make a paper thank-you medal
You’ll needCard, paper strips, crayons, scissors and glue.
Let children choose Dad, Grandad, a carer or another trusted person. Keep the activity about appreciation rather than comparing families or describing every father as perfect.
Draw and cut a large card circle, with help from a grown-up if needed.
Fold two paper strips like ribbons and glue them behind the circle.
Write a particular thank-you on the medal. Give it with a card or use it as a page marker.
For the grown-ups
A little help with Father’s Day.
Father’s Day is not simple for every family. Offer a choice of recipient and remind children that they can make a thank-you for any trusted grown-up who cares for them.
What is a simple Father’s Day Sunday school craft?
A story wheel, a Bible-themed card or a paper thank-you medal can be completed with ordinary craft supplies. Keep the message personal by asking children to name one thing they appreciate.
Can I make Bible verse cards for Dad?
Yes. Use the card activity with the Luke 15:20 Bible thought, or add a short verse your family or church has read together. The personalised card is free to print from this page.
Can children make the craft for someone other than their father?
Yes. Invite them to choose a grandfather, carer or another trusted grown-up. An open choice of recipient helps more children join in comfortably.
A special day. A lesson, sorted.
