Bible verses for children

Giving begins with gratitude.

1 Chronicles 29:14

An ancient community joyfully gathers gifts of food and materials at a shared table, a leader gives thanks while neighbors set aside portions for a family without food
But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from you, and we have given you of your own.

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

David thanks God that the people are able to give. He sees their offerings as a response to what they have received, not a way to make God owe them something. Generosity can grow from gratitude: we notice a gift and choose to share some of it.

If you have art supplies to spare, you could share them with someone making a card. Ask your carer first. A gift should be freely chosen, and you do not have to give what you need for yourself.

Talk about it

What have you received that could help someone else too?

Bible context & readings +

David speaks in a prayer after gifts are collected for the temple. In 1 Chronicles 29:10–20 he praises God and asks for sincere hearts. This is thanksgiving for willing giving, not pressure to give beyond what a family can afford.
