Bible verses for children

Run with a clear purpose.

1 Corinthians 9:24

Children steadily running along a safe grassy course, a small bag of unnecessary heavy belongings left by the start, friends encouraging them
Don’t you know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run like that, so that you may win.

1 Corinthians 9:24 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

Paul uses a race to picture purposeful effort. Following Jesus involves attention and practice, not drifting without direction. The image does not mean only one person can receive God’s love.

Choose a useful habit and practise it steadily rather than comparing yourself with everyone else.

Talk about it

What purpose could help you keep practising patiently?

Bible context & readings +

First Corinthians 9:24–27 uses athletic training to discuss disciplined service. Paul’s broader discussion concerns the gospel and his conduct; it is not a competition measuring people’s worth by speed or strength.
