Generosity should be freely chosen.

2 Corinthians 9:7

Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

A cheerful giver chooses to share rather than being pressured or resentful. Joyful giving considers a real need and a thoughtful decision. It is not a competition over who gives most.

Decide with an adult on a useful gift, leaving room to say what you can manage.

Bible context & readings +

Second Corinthians 9 concerns a planned collection and the spirit in which it is offered. Paul explicitly rejects compulsion. The verse should not be used to shame someone who cannot afford to give.
