Bible verses for children

Good can grow after wrong.

Genesis 50:20

Joseph reassuring his brothers and providing for the family
As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to save many people alive, as is happening today.

Genesis 50:20 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

Joseph tells his brothers clearly that what they did was wrong. He also sees that God has brought life-saving good out of his story: food has been provided during a famine. Seeing that good does not turn the brothers’ cruelty into a kind action.

If someone hurts you, you can name the wrong and ask for protection. Later, good may come through help, healing or new friendships. You do not have to call the hurt good or pretend it never happened.

Talk about it

How can we be thankful for help without pretending that a wrong action was right?

Bible context & readings +

After their father dies, Joseph’s brothers fear revenge because they sold him years earlier. In Genesis 50:15–21 Joseph reassures them and promises to provide for their families. He speaks about what happened in his own story, not a rule that every painful event will have an obvious happy ending.
