Bible verses for children

Small faith can look beyond itself.

Luke 17:6

A child holds a tiny mustard seed on an open palm while a caring adult points to a healthy mustard plant nearby
The Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you would tell this sycamore tree, ‘Be uprooted and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

A mustard seed is small. Jesus uses an enormous contrast to challenge measuring faith by appearance or size. Trust depends on God, not on imagining that we possess impressive spiritual power.

Bring a small, honest prayer instead of waiting until you feel completely confident.

Talk about it

What could you ask even when your confidence feels small?

Bible context & readings +

Luke 17:5–6 follows the apostles’ request for increased faith. The tree planted in the sea is vivid teaching language, not an instruction to test faith through dangerous or impossible experiments.
