Bible verses for children

Rest belongs beside service.

Mark 6:31

Jesus and a small group of tired disciples sit quietly in the shade beside a calm lake, simple bread and water nearby, work and travel bags set aside
He said to them, “Come away into a deserted place, and rest awhile.” For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

Jesus invites his busy friends to come away and rest. They have not even had time to eat. Helping others does not erase bodily needs or mean we must be available every moment.

Take a planned break after helping with a task and let someone else rest too.

Talk about it

How can you notice when you or others need a break?

A little more to explore

Bible context & readings +

The apostles return to Jesus and report their work amid constant crowds. His invitation recognises exhaustion before the next demanding scene. Rest is part of care, not evidence of selfishness.
