Bible verses for children

We need more than food alone.

Matthew 4:4

Illustration of Jesus Is Tempted in the Wilderness
But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God’s mouth.’ ”

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

Bread represents necessary food, but life also needs God’s guidance. Jesus refuses to use his power simply to satisfy the temptation before him. Food remains a real and important need.

When choosing what to do, consider what is right as well as what you want immediately.

Bible context & readings +

Jesus answers temptation in the wilderness by quoting Deuteronomy. The verse is about trust and obedience under testing, not skipping meals or telling hungry people that they only need religious words.
