Bible verses for children

Be fair when you measure.

Proverbs 11:1

An honest ancient market seller carefully balances a simple beam scale with matching standard weights and grain; a customer observes with trust
A false balance is an abomination to Yahweh, but accurate weights are his delight.

Proverbs 11:1 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

In a market, scales help decide how much someone receives. False weights let a seller cheat a buyer. The strong word “abomination” means something deeply wrong; God delights instead in fair dealing, including the small details others may not notice.

When sharing materials, use the same measure for everyone. Do not secretly give yourself a larger share while saying the portions are equal.

Bible context & readings +

This proverb uses everyday trade to show that honesty matters to God. Accurate weights protected people from being cheated. Its lesson reaches beyond shops to any situation where someone controls a measure, score or share that others rely on.
