Bible verses for children

Words can wound or help.

Proverbs 12:18

Two children listen calmly to one another after a disagreement
There is one who speaks rashly like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise heals.

Proverbs 12:18 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

Rash words are spoken without enough care. The proverb compares them to a sword because they can hurt deeply. Wise speech can help healing through truth, apology and encouragement. Words are powerful, but kind words alone do not fix every injury.

If you notice someone struggling, offer a helpful suggestion without an insult. If your own words hurt them, acknowledge it and apologise.

Talk about it

Bible context & readings +

This proverb sets two uses of speech beside each other: reckless piercing and wise healing. Its images describe the effects of words on people. It encourages care about both what we say and the way we say it.
