Bible verses for children

Truth builds trust.

Proverbs 12:22

A child openly showing an accidentally broken clay cup to a calm trusted adult, accepting conversation without fear
Lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, but those who do the truth are his delight.

Proverbs 12:22 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

The verse strongly rejects lying and delights in people who practise truth. Truthfulness is something we do, not just something we say is important. Admitting a mistake can be difficult, but it gives people a chance to respond to what really happened.

If you accidentally damage something, tell the adult responsible. Explain what happened and ask how you can help put it right.

Talk about it

Bible context & readings +

Proverbs 12 often compares truthful and deceptive speech. Verse 22 places that contrast before God. Its strong language condemns lying; it does not mean a child who has lied is beyond forgiveness or should be frightened away from confessing.
