Bible verses for children

Unfairness can take away hard work.

Proverbs 13:23

A small farming family stands beside a plentiful harvested field while an unfair official blocks access to the grain; a neighbor listens and speaks up calmly
An abundance of food is in poor people’s fields, but injustice sweeps it away.

Proverbs 13:23 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

This proverb notices food growing in poor people’s fields, then being swept away by injustice. Not having enough does not always mean someone failed to work. Unfair treatment can take away what people need and what they have worked to produce.

If a group does the work but one person unfairly takes all the supplies or credit, ask an adult to help put it right.

Talk about it

Why is it unfair to assume that someone without enough has not tried?

Bible context & readings +

Proverbs includes praise for diligence, but this verse also recognises the effects of injustice. Read both truths together. Its field picture challenges a simple equation between effort and wealth and directs attention towards fair treatment.
