Bible verses for children

Respect people who have less.

Proverbs 14:31

An adult and child deliver a basket of food to an older person and a caregiver with a young child at a community table, everyone at equal eye level with dignity
He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.

Proverbs 14:31 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

Oppressing means treating people unfairly through power. This verse connects treatment of people in need with honour for their Maker. Having less money does not make anyone less valuable, and help should be offered with dignity rather than pity that humiliates.

Include a classmate whether or not they can buy the same things as others. Ask an adult about helpful ways to share without embarrassing anyone.

Talk about it

Bible context & readings +

The proverb links human dignity with God as Maker. Its contrast is between oppression and kindness towards people in poverty. It challenges contempt based on wealth and calls for practical honour, not simply polite words while unfairness continues.
