Bible verses for children

Enough can be better than more.

Proverbs 25:16

A child tastes a small drop of honey from a wooden spoon beside a caring adult, honeycomb in a bowl and an open book on the table
Have you found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for you, lest you eat too much, and vomit it.

Proverbs 25:16 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

Honey is enjoyable, but too much can make someone sick. The proverb uses a concrete example of moderation: something good is not improved by having it without limit. Learning to notice enough helps us enjoy things wisely.

With a carer’s guidance, practise pausing during a favourite activity and noticing whether you need a break. More is not always better.

Talk about it

When could stopping at enough help you enjoy something well?

Bible context & readings +

Proverbs 25:16 uses the effect of excess honey to teach moderation. The following verse also warns about excess, this time in visits to a neighbour. The lesson is proportion, not shame about food, appetite or body size.
