Bible verses for children

Speak up for people who are not heard.

Proverbs 31:8

A caring adult listening seriously to a child who is being excluded, with space being made for them at a community table
Open your mouth for the mute, in the cause of all who are left desolate.

Proverbs 31:8 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

The verse urges someone with influence to defend people whose voices are not being heard. The older word “mute” points to an inability to speak in that setting. Helping means listening to people’s needs, not assuming we should always speak over them.

If someone is repeatedly left out of a decision, help make room for their voice. Ask an adult to support them if the group will not listen.

Talk about it

How can you support someone’s voice rather than replace it?

Bible context & readings +

Proverbs 31:1–9 presents teaching given to King Lemuel by his mother. Verses 8–9 direct royal power towards fair judgement and the defence of vulnerable people. Children can practise inclusion while leaving adult responsibilities with adults.
