Bible verses for children

Wonderfully made and deeply valued.

Psalm 139:14

A diverse family with a boy and girl warmly regards a young child discovering their own hands and reflection in a small mirror, all shown with equal dignity in a peaceful garden
I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well.

Psalm 139:14 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

The singer responds with awe to being made by God. “Fearfully” here expresses wonder and reverence, not the idea that a person should be frightened of their body. Every person has worth, including people whose bodies work differently or need extra care.

Notice something your body helps you experience, and something you appreciate about another person beyond appearance. Speak about bodies with kindness rather than ranking them.

Talk about it

How can we show that every person matters, whatever their abilities?

Bible context & readings +

Psalm 139:13–18 reflects poetically on being known before birth and formed in hidden places. Verse 14 is an expression of wonder. It should not be used to claim that disability or illness is imaginary, or that needing treatment shows ingratitude.
