Bible verses for children

A pause before speaking.

Psalm 141:3

Two children have a calm truthful conversation at a garden table
Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips.

Psalm 141:3 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

A guard at the mouth is a picture of taking care with speech. The singer asks for help controlling words before they cause harm. This does not mean keeping every feeling inside or staying quiet when someone needs to hear about a problem.

If you are about to shout an insult, pause and name what is wrong without attacking the person. You can say, “I am upset because…” and ask an adult for help.

Bible context & readings +

Psalm 141 asks for guidance about speech, desires and actions. The image of a guarded doorway in verse 3 concerns responsible words. Read it alongside the need for honesty: speaking up about hurt or unfairness can be the right use of a voice.
