Bible verses for children

Words and thoughts that honour God.

Psalm 19:14

Two children have a calm truthful conversation at a garden table
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, Yahweh, my rock, and my redeemer.

Psalm 19:14 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

The singer asks that both spoken words and inward thoughts please God. Meditation means what we keep thinking about. Calling God a rock pictures steady support; redeemer means one who rescues. This prayer asks for help with the person we are inside as well as the words others hear.

Before sending a message or repeating a story, pause. Is it true? Is it helpful? You can choose better words without pretending you never feel angry or upset.

Talk about it

How might a pause change the words you choose?

Bible context & readings +

This verse closes Psalm 19 after praise for creation and God’s instruction. The preceding verses ask for help with hidden and deliberate wrongdoing. The prayer joins dependence on God with honest attention to our words and intentions.
