Bible verses for children

Welcomed at a generous table.

Psalm 23:5

An abundant welcoming table in an ancient courtyard with bread, fruit, a clay oil flask and an overflowing cup of water, a tired traveler warmly welcomed by a gracious host
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over.

Psalm 23:5 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

The poem now pictures God as a welcoming host. A prepared table, oil for the head and an overflowing cup express honour and generous care. Even with enemies nearby, the guest has a welcome. This is not an invitation to show off or celebrate someone else’s trouble.

When someone joins your table, make a place and help them feel wanted. A thoughtful welcome can be generous even when the meal is simple.

Talk about it

What makes a person feel welcome, besides the food on the table?

Bible context & readings +

Psalm 23 shifts from a shepherd guiding a flock to a host receiving a guest. Oil and a full cup belong to the picture of welcome. The surrounding danger remains in view; the verse does not promise wealth or revenge against enemies.
