Bible verses for children

Discover God’s goodness.

Psalm 34:8

A child tastes a small drop of honey from a wooden spoon beside a caring adult, honeycomb in a bowl and an open book on the table
Oh taste and see that Yahweh is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

Psalm 34:8 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

“Taste and see” is a picture drawn from trying food for yourself. The singer invites others to discover God’s goodness through trusting him. Refuge means a place of shelter. The words do not mean eating something magical or performing an experiment that forces God to give a reward.

Someone can tell you that kindness matters, but practising it helps you understand it more deeply. As you pray and learn, notice care you receive and questions you still want to ask.

Bible context & readings +

Psalm 34 begins with praise for being heard and delivered from fear. The singer then invites others to share in trust and learn how to live. Later verses acknowledge trouble, so discovering goodness is not a promise of an easy life.
