Bible verses for children

Does God give us every wish?

Psalm 37:4

A child sitting quietly by a bedroom window at early morning, hands relaxed together, speaking to God in prayer with a thoughtful trusting expression
Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:4 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

Delighting in God means learning to value his goodness and enjoy knowing him. That can shape what our hearts desire. This verse is not a bargain in which we pray enough and receive every possession we want. It belongs to teaching about trust, goodness and patience.

You might want to win a game and also learn to want fair play and a good friendship. Growing desires can change how you respond when the score does not go your way.

Talk about it

How might a good friendship matter more than getting your own way?

Bible context & readings +

Psalm 37 addresses the frustration of seeing people do wrong and seem to succeed. Verses 1–11 call for trust, good actions and patient waiting. Read verse 4 within that teaching rather than as an isolated promise to fulfil any wish.
