Bible verses for children

Hope and sadness can be together.

Psalm 42:11

A child and caring adult sit together by a window after a difficult night, a tear still on the child cheek while warm dawn light begins to enter
Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance, and my God.

Psalm 42:11 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

The singer speaks to his own troubled soul, asking why it is so downcast and encouraging it to hope in God. This is not an instant switch from sadness to happiness. The prayer holds both feelings: real distress and the hope of praising God again.

You can say, “I feel sad today, and I would like some help.” A hopeful sentence, a caring person and time to talk can support you without forcing a smile.

Bible context & readings +

This refrain returns at the end of Psalm 42 after the singer has described tears and feeling forgotten. The lament has not become a report that everything is fixed. Faithful prayer can include repeated questions and ongoing need for comfort.
