Bible verses for children

Freedom from a condemning verdict.

Romans 8:1

Jesus in a simple cream robe and blue cloak warmly welcomes a hesitant child and their family into a shaded courtyard, kneeling to the child eye level
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Romans 8:1 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

Condemnation means a judgement against someone. Paul announces freedom from it for those in Christ. That does not remove responsibility, but it means failure need not become a permanent identity of shame.

After acknowledging a wrong, seek forgiveness and repair rather than repeatedly calling yourself worthless.

Talk about it

How can responsibility and freedom from shame belong together?

Bible context & readings +

Romans 8 follows Paul’s discussion of sin, law and struggle. Its opening leads into life in the Spirit. The WEB wording includes a phrase about walking according to the Spirit, echoed later in the passage.
