Who was Gideon?
Gideon was called to lead during a time when Midian oppressed Israel. He began with uncertainty and asked questions. His later story also includes choices that caused trouble, so he is not presented as flawless.
When first addressed as a mighty warrior, Gideon described his family's weakness. The conversation makes room for his fear before he takes on leadership.
