Meet Jephthah.
A judge with a tragic story.
Who was Jephthah?
Jephthah was a leader in Gilead who became a judge during conflict with Ammon. His account includes exclusion, warfare and a tragic vow involving his daughter. That vow must not be presented as a good example to copy.
Jephthah made a rash promise before battle. The story warns us about harmful words and decisions; an unsafe promise is something to bring to a trusted adult, not carry out.
