Who was Matthias?
Matthias was chosen to join the apostles after Judas Iscariot. Acts describes the group considering witnesses who had accompanied Jesus' followers from the beginning. He is different from Matthew.
The community prayed before the selection of Matthias. The account records a particular decision in the early church, not a rule that every choice should be made by drawing lots.
