Named person · New Testament

Meet Onesimus.

A person Paul asks to be welcomed as a brother.

Onesimus: a quiet historically appropriate setting for A person Paul asks to be welcomed as a brother, with simple understated contextual details; no invented dramatic event

Who was Onesimus?

Onesimus is the person at the centre of Paul's letter to Philemon. He was enslaved, and Paul asked that he be received as a beloved brother. The letter does not justify treating a person as property.

Paul asked Philemon to welcome Onesimus as he would welcome Paul himself. The appeal presses towards recognising his dignity and relationship within the community.

Onesimus arriving with a letter at Philemon's doorway, met at eye level with dignity, no chains or servile pose.
