Who was Thomas?

Thomas, also called Didymus, was one of Jesus' disciples. John describes his questions and his encounter with the risen Jesus. He should not be reduced to a label used to shame people who ask for understanding.

Thomas had not been present when Jesus first appeared to the others. Jesus later addressed his difficulty, and Thomas responded with a confession of faith.
