Who was Zerubbabel?

Zerubbabel was a leader in the Jewish community returning from exile. He worked alongside Jeshua the high priest in rebuilding worship and the temple. Their distinct roles contributed to a shared task.

Ezra names both Zerubbabel and Jeshua in rebuilding the altar. The account gives a picture of cooperation during a difficult new beginning.
