Getting ready

Age & adult help

Following several illustrated panels and reading speech or story text adds a literacy demand to the colouring.

Read panels aloud and help children follow their order. Check the story and wording before using it with younger children.

What you’ll need

Printer, paper, colouring pencils or crayons. An adult reader may be helpful for younger children.

Time & preparation

One comic page, including colouring. Shared reading and discussion are additional.
Age is an editorial estimate for the motor and reading demands of this format. Difficulty, completion time and suggested tools are planning estimates, not build-tested. An adult should adapt discussion of death, danger or distress to the group.

Check the file before you print for a group, and allow for any extra help the kids might need.

Printing tips

The story behind the craft

Bible passage: Exodus 7–12

Pharaoh repeatedly refuses to release the enslaved Israelites. A series of plagues exposes the struggle between Pharaoh’s power and God’s demand that the people go; the story leads into Passover and the Exodus.

Main takeaway: Pharaoh’s refusal to release the people brings suffering, while God acts to free them.

While you colour the panels

Read the panels in order, pausing at a change in a character’s action or understanding.

Track Pharaoh’s repeated refusal rather than treating the plagues as a list of exciting disasters. Read the final plague with adult guidance and connect it to the Exodus.

Younger learners can describe an action in one panel. Older learners can compare a caption with its Bible passage and discuss what a short comic leaves out.

Questions to explore

  • What was Pharaoh being asked to do?
  • How did his decisions affect others?
  • What would a leader who listened have done differently?

Common questions

What files are included in this download?

The download is a 1-page PDF: PlaguesofEgypt_Ex7_12.pdf. This is the English edition. You print the files yourself; physical supplies are not included.

Is this a comic to read or a colouring sheet?

It combines both on one page: outlined comic panels with story captions. Read the panels in sequence, then colour and talk about the illustrated moments. It is a flat printable, with no paper mechanism to assemble. Printed captions include “The first plague turns water to blood, but Pharaoh refuses to listen” and “Moses and Aaron warn Pharaoh about the plagues God will send”.

Which pages should I print, and at what size?

The original PDF pages are A4 portrait. PlaguesofEgypt_Ex7_12.pdf: print the page for each learner or group. Print single-sided. On US Letter paper, select Letter and Fit or shrink to the printable area; the originals are not separate Letter-sized files.
