A simple retelling for children
Page 1 of 4Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem because everyone had to be counted in their family’s home town. Mary was expecting a baby. After their long journey, they reached Bethlehem. Soon it would be time for her baby to be born.
While they were in Bethlehem, Jesus was born. Mary wrapped him snugly in cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no guest room available. A manger was a place where animals ate. This little baby was Jesus, the Saviour.
Nearby, shepherds were watching their sheep in the fields at night. An angel appeared, and God’s glory shone around them. The shepherds were frightened. The angel told them not to be afraid. A Saviour had been born! Then a great crowd of angels praised God.
The shepherds hurried to Bethlehem. They found Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, just as the angel had said. They told others the wonderful news. Mary treasured these things in her heart. The shepherds went back praising God for all they had heard and seen.
