Bible verses for children

Life depends on its Creator.

Acts 17:28

Paul explaining the Creator to people gathered in Athens
‘For in him we live, move, and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’

Acts 17:28 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

Paul speaks of living and moving in God and quotes a poet known to his listeners. His point is dependence on the Creator. God is not a statue people manufacture or control.

Notice an ordinary part of living and give thanks without assuming you sustain everything yourself.

Talk about it

Bible context & readings +

Acts 17:22–31 records Paul speaking in Athens about the Creator and human responsibility. He uses familiar poetry as a bridge in the argument, not as approval of every belief his listeners held.
