Bible verses for children

Jesus’ work reaches its completion.

John 19:30

A simple empty wooden cross on a quiet hill at dawn, a white cloth draped over one arm, small spring flowers below, peaceful distant Jerusalem silhouette
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

“It is finished” marks the completion of Jesus’ work in the crucifixion account. Christians understand his death as central to salvation. It is not the final end of John’s story, which continues to resurrection.

Read the account gently with an adult, asking how the next chapter changes the meaning of the ending.

Talk about it

Why should this moment be read with the resurrection account?

Bible context & readings +

John 19:28–30 connects Jesus’ awareness, Scripture and his final words before death. The scene should be handled without graphic detail for young readers and within the Gospel’s whole story.
