Bible verses for children
Choosing to serve God.
Joshua 24:15

If it seems evil to you to serve Yahweh, choose today whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh.”

In simple words
What does this verse mean?
Joshua tells the people that he and his household will serve God. Serving means giving loyalty through worship and the way we live. He asks Israel to take their commitment seriously rather than simply follow the gods around them.
A family can talk about how faith shapes their choices, such as telling the truth or welcoming a neighbour. Children should be able to ask questions as they learn what that commitment means.

At Shechem, Joshua reminds Israel of their history and calls them to renew their covenant with God. Read Joshua 24:14–24 to hear the people’s response and Joshua’s warning that service is a serious commitment. The passage is not a reason to force someone to pretend belief.
