Bible verses for children

Let your work speak for itself.

Proverbs 27:2

A child notices their own crooked row of building blocks before judging a friend, then asks for help; the friend listens kindly
Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

This advice discourages constantly advertising our own greatness. Praise is more meaningful when it comes freely from someone else. We can still describe our work honestly, enjoy progress and ask for help without trying to prove we are better than others.

After finishing something you are pleased with, show it without putting another person’s work down. Listen to what they want to share too.

Talk about it

How could you share an achievement without turning it into a competition?

Bible context & readings +

Proverbs 27:2 contrasts another person’s praise with self-praise. It is a lesson in modesty and social wisdom. It does not require hiding abilities, refusing every compliment or believing that feeling pleased with good work is wrong.
