Bible verses for children

Compassion like a caring parent.

Psalm 103:13

A caring parent holds a young child close on a shaded garden bench, child relaxed against the parent shoulder, expressions gentle and secure
Like a father has compassion on his children, so Yahweh has compassion on those who fear him.

Psalm 103:13 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

The psalm compares God’s compassion to the tender care of a father for his children. It uses a good family relationship to help us understand care. Some parents do not act safely or kindly; this verse does not excuse that or make it a child’s fault.

Think of a safe adult who listens when you struggle. The patience and comfort they offer can help you understand what compassionate care looks like.

Bible context & readings +

Psalm 103 describes forgiveness, compassion and awareness of human weakness. The parent comparison belongs to that description. “Those who fear him” means those who honour God here, not children who must feel frightened to deserve loving treatment.
