Bible verses for children
Care as tender as protecting an eye.
Psalm 17:8

Keep me as the apple of your eye. Hide me under the shadow of your wings,
Psalm 17:8 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)
In simple words
What does this verse mean?
The “apple of your eye” means the pupil, the delicate centre of an eye. The singer asks for careful protection, then uses another picture: shelter beneath wings. God is not being described as a bird. Both pictures express a longing to be kept close and cared for.
When dust blows, you instinctively protect your eyes. Think of that careful attention when you pray for someone who needs protection, and get real help if someone is unsafe.

Bible context & readings +
Psalm 17 asks for justice and protection from threatening people. Verse 8 belongs to that urgent prayer, and the next verse names the danger. These are poetic requests for care, not a promise that nothing painful can happen.
