Bible verses for children

Being near God is precious.

Psalm 84:10

An ancient Israelite family and neighbors approach a peaceful temple courtyard with grateful faces, a few kneeling quietly in prayer, warm light and simple stone architecture
For a day in your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

Psalm 84:10 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

The singer would rather have a humble place near God than enjoy comfort among people doing wrong. The courts are spaces around the place of worship, and a doorkeeper serves at its entrance. The comparison is about what matters most, not which building is most impressive.

A small, welcoming gathering can be more meaningful than a grand place where people are unkind. Notice how the people around you help one another worship and belong.

Talk about it

What makes a gathering welcoming, even if the place is simple?

Bible context & readings +

Psalm 84 expresses longing for God’s dwelling place and the journey towards it. Verse 10 uses a strong comparison between one day and a thousand. It celebrates worship without teaching that God is confined to a building or that humble jobs are worth less.
