Meet Herod the Great.

The ruler opposing the infant Jesus.

Herod the Great: a quiet historically appropriate setting for The ruler opposing the infant Jesus, with simple understated contextual details; no invented dramatic event

Who was Herod the Great?

Herod the Great was the king in Matthew's account of Jesus' early life. He felt threatened by news of a child called king of the Jews. His response endangered children and forced Jesus' family to flee.

Joseph took Mary and Jesus to Egypt after a warning. The story describes seeking safety from a ruler's violence, not a child needing to face danger bravely alone.

Herod the Great seated in a palace consulting advisers over a blank parchment map, worried controlling expression, no harmed children.
