Lazarus in the parable

A poor man in Jesus' teaching story.

Lazarus in the parable: a quiet historically appropriate setting for A poor man in Jesus' teaching story, with simple understated contextual details; no invented dramatic event

Who is Lazarus in the parable?

This Lazarus is a poor man in Jesus' story about a rich man and Lazarus. He is not Lazarus of Bethany. The parable contrasts suffering at a gate with wealth that ignores it and includes difficult after-death imagery.

The rich man lived comfortably while Lazarus suffered nearby. Begin by noticing the neglected person's dignity and the failure to respond to need, rather than frightening children with the later imagery.

Lazarus seated outside a wealthy house's gate, clothed and dignified, empty bowl beside him, contrast with abundant food glimpsed inside
