Who was Mary of Bethany?
Mary of Bethany was the sister of Martha and Lazarus. She listened to Jesus' teaching and shared her family's grief. She is distinct from Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jesus.
Luke describes Mary sitting at Jesus' feet to listen. Later, John describes her weeping after her brother's death. Listening and honest emotion both belong in her story.
