Job 7:1–21
In Job 7:1–21, Job speaks plainly about exhausting suffering. He compares life to hard labour, describes sleepless pain, and then turns his complaint towards God with urgent questions about being watched, tested, and not pardoned.
Job 8:1–22
In Job 8:1–22, Bildad answers Job with sharp questions and firm conclusions. This is wisdom and dialogue, so the passage gives Bildad’s argument in order rather than asking us to treat his speech as a separate story.
Job 9:1–35
In Job 9, Job answers with a hard question: how can a person contend with God? This wisdom dialogue follows Job’s thoughts step by step as he speaks of God’s greatness, his own weakness, and his longing to speak without fear.
Job 10:1–22
In Job 10:1–22, Job speaks directly to God from deep weariness. He asks why God is against him, remembers that God made and preserved him, and pleads for a little relief before the darkness he expects.
Job 11:1–20
In Job 11:1–20, Zophar answers Job with a severe rebuke. He attacks Job’s words, speaks about God’s unsearchable wisdom, urges Job to remove iniquity, and ends by contrasting hoped-for safety with the end of the wicked.
Job 12:1–25
Job answers people who speak as if they have settled everything. He says their claims are not special, then points to suffering, creation and rulers to show that God’s wisdom and power reach beyond human certainty.
Job 13:1–28
In this part of Job’s speech, he stops accepting his friends’ claims as help. He wants to speak directly to God, set out his case, and ask what sin he is being charged with.
Job 14:1–22
Job 14 is a sorrowful speech about human life, suffering and death. Job speaks directly to God, using strong pictures to describe how brief people are and how uncertain hope can feel in the face of death.
Job 15:1–35
In Job 15, Eliphaz answers Job again. He claims Job’s own speech shows guilt, says Job is pushing aside reverence for God, and then describes what he believes happens to wicked people.
Job 16:1–22
Job answers his friends with sharp honesty. He says their words do not help, uses intense lament imagery to describe severe suffering, and still speaks toward God as he longs for someone to uphold his case.
Job 17:1–16
In this passage, Job speaks about suffering, shame and death with painful honesty. He feels near the grave, rejected by others and unsure where hope can be found, yet he also says something important about the righteous.
Job 18:1–21
In this speech, Bildad answers with sharp rebuke and vivid warnings. He describes what he says happens to the wicked, using repeated images of darkness, traps, fear and loss.
Job 19:1–29
In Job 19:1–29, Job answers people who have spoken harshly to him. He describes deep suffering, loneliness and blame, then states his confidence that his Redeemer lives and that there is judgment.
Job 20:1–29
Zophar replies with urgency and confidence. He says the success of the wicked is brief, and he piles up vivid pictures to argue that evil gains end in loss, exposure and judgement.
Job 21:1–34
In Job 21, Job answers people who expect the wicked to be punished in obvious ways. He asks them to listen carefully, then points to what he actually sees in life, death, and public opinion.
Job 22:1–30
Eliphaz answers Job by arguing that God does not gain from human righteousness, then accusing Job of serious wrongs and urging him to return to the Almighty. This passage records Eliphaz’s speech in the dialogue.
Job 23:1–17
In this part of Job’s reply, he speaks directly about wanting to find God, present his case, and understand what God would say. The passage holds together longing, confidence, and fear in one honest speech.
Job 24:1–25
Job 24 asks why God’s times are not plainly seen. In this speech, Job describes grave wrongs against vulnerable people, then people who rebel against the light, and finally the tension of their temporary security and their passing end.
Job 25:1–6
Bildad’s short reply speaks about God’s greatness and human smallness. In a few lines, he asks how any human could be counted clean or righteous before God, using the heavens to make his point.
Job 26:1–14
Job answers with sharp questions and then turns to God’s greatness. This passage shows both Job’s criticism of powerless human words and his awe at how far God’s rule reaches.
Job 27:1–6; Job 27:7–23
Job swears that he will not speak deceitfully, justify his companions or abandon his integrity. His speech then wishes his enemy the lot of the unrighteous and describes the portion he says awaits wicked oppressors.
Job 28:1–28
Job 28 asks a searching question. People can dig deep into the earth and uncover valuable things, but wisdom is different. This passage shows both human skill and human limits, then points to the only sure place wisdom is defined.
Job 29:1–25
In Job 29, Job looks back with longing to an earlier season of life. He remembers God’s care, the respect others gave him, the help he gave to vulnerable people, and the influence his words once carried.
Job 30:1–14; Job 30:15–31
Job contrasts his former honour with present contempt. He describes the people who mock him in harsh, contemptuous terms, then laments bodily pain, unanswered cries and God's treatment of him. His speech ends with music turned to mourning.
