Bible verses for children

God sees Hagar.

Genesis 16:13

Hagar: a quiet historically appropriate setting for A displaced woman seen by God, with simple understated contextual details; no invented dramatic event
She called the name of Yahweh who spoke to her, “You are a God who sees,” for she said, “Have I even stayed alive after seeing him?”

Genesis 16:13 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

Hagar has been treated harshly and has run away. When God’s messenger finds her, she discovers that her trouble has not gone unnoticed. Calling God the one who sees is a way of expressing wonder: someone who felt overlooked has been heard.

If you feel left out or frightened, your feelings matter. You can talk to God and tell a safe grown-up what is happening. Being seen and cared for includes getting real help.

Talk about it

How could you help someone who seems unnoticed feel included?

A little more to explore

Bible context & readings +

Hagar is an Egyptian servant in Abram and Sarai’s household. Genesis 16 tells of mistreatment, flight and an encounter near a spring. The instruction she receives in that ancient story must not be used to tell a child to return to danger or stay silent about harm.
