Bible verses for children

Care for the garden.

Genesis 2:15

Adam: in a lush garden beside a young tree, fully clothed in a simple modest tunic
Yahweh God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.

Genesis 2:15 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

God gives the man a place in the garden and a job: to cultivate and keep it. Cultivate means helping things grow. Keep means looking after what has been entrusted to him. The garden is a gift to care for, not something to spoil.

You could water a plant the amount it needs, leave wildflowers growing for insects or put rubbish in a bin. Caring for a small place is a real way to practise responsibility.

Talk about it

What living thing nearby needs careful attention rather than just being left alone?

Bible context & readings +

Genesis 2 describes the garden of Eden, its trees and rivers. Before the story of disobedience, the man already has meaningful work. Looking after the garden is part of life with God, not a punishment.
