Named person · Old Testament

Meet Adam.

The first man in Genesis.

Adam: in a lush garden beside a young tree, fully clothed in a simple modest tunic

Who was Adam?

In Genesis, Adam is the first man. God forms him from the ground and gives him life. He is placed in a garden to tend it. The story later tells of broken trust and leaving the garden.

Adam was given work caring for the garden before the story of disobedience. Looking after living things is part of his place in the world.
