Who was Balaam?
Balaam was summoned by Balak to curse Israel. Numbers tells of a journey, a donkey's warning and messages he could not simply change for reward. Other Bible passages also criticise Balaam's conduct.
On the road, Balaam did not see the danger that his donkey saw. The surprising scene challenges his assumption that he understood everything happening around him.
