Bible verses for children

There is a time to rest.

Genesis 2:2

A family resting together in a flourishing garden beside a home, work basket set aside, relaxed posture, sharing quiet time in the shade
On the seventh day God finished his work which he had done; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done.

Genesis 2:2 · World English Bible Classic (WEB)

In simple words

What does this verse mean?

God’s work of creation is complete, and the story describes him resting. Rest here means stopping the work, not giving up because it went wrong. The seventh day helps us see that life includes enjoying what has been done, as well as doing new things.

When a busy day is finished, you do not have to keep finding jobs to prove you are useful. A quiet story, sleep or time with your family can be part of a good day.

Bible context & readings +

Genesis 2:1–3 completes the creation account. God blesses the seventh day and sets it apart. The passage later helps explain Israel’s Sabbath rest; it does not describe God running out of strength.
