Jesus speaks clearly about the Law and the Prophets in the Sermon on the Mount. In these verses, he explains that he did not come to destroy them, and he warns his hearers to take God’s commands seriously.

Jesus teaches that God cares about more than avoiding murder. In these verses, he shows that angry speech and damaged relationships matter, and he calls people to seek peace without delay.
Matthew 5:27–32
Jesus teaches that faithfulness is not only about outward actions. In these verses, he speaks about desire, drastic action against sin, and the seriousness of divorce and adultery.
Matthew 5:33–37
Jesus teaches that honest speech should be plain and reliable. In these verses, he speaks about vows, swearing, and the kind of truthfulness that makes a simple yes or no matter.
Matthew 5:38–48
Jesus teaches his listeners to answer harm and hostility in a surprising way. In these verses he moves from payback to generosity, and from ordinary friendship to love, prayer and doing good even toward enemies.
Matthew 6:1–4
Jesus teaches that giving can look generous on the outside while still aiming at human praise. In these verses, children can learn to notice the difference between helping others and trying to be noticed for it.
Matthew 6:16–18
Jesus teaches that fasting should not become a way to attract attention. In these verses, he contrasts people who want to be noticed with people who quietly direct their practice towards God.
Psalms 34:1–22
Psalm 34 teaches children to notice how a prayer-song moves from praise, to help in trouble, to practical teaching about words, peace and trust in Yahweh.
